I finally had surgery on my knee this past Tuesday, March 13, 2007. It was an arthroscopic miniscusectomy on the medial meniscus on my right knee. I was told that the two holes (one for viewing and one for cutting) would be no bigger than a nail head. Those are some pretty damn big nail head sized holes in my knee. The whole procedure was done in an hour and because I had a spinal block, I watched and heard everything going on. Some pretty wicked advances they have made in surgery.

The Cryo Cuff/AirCast System was pretty cool. It's an ice water filled cast that I wore for the first 48 hours post op and am using it a few hours a day until all the swelling is gone. You drain the cast every hour and refill it with cold water from the cooler you see in the picture.

I started Physical Therapy today (Friday) and I swear these PT nurses are protégés of Dr. Josef Mengele. They love to hurt you and hurt me they did. I get to go to these sadists 3 times a week for the next month.

[TURN VOLUME UP]

Well, here are the pictures I promised a few people and be sure to watch the video. Pretty fascinating stuff.

POST OP EXPOSED

UPDATE: When I showered today (Sunday), the steri-strips used to seal the incisions came off and I found that they ARE very small indeed. I thought they were larger due to the blood, as seen in the picture above. It's amazing that my surgeon was able to get the job done with such a small incision. 6 days after my surgery, I am walking without the crutches and the swelling is all but gone. Many thanks for an excellent job to my doctor and surgeon, Dr. Stanley Harrison
